It is true that the ACC is a better baseball conference than the Big Ten
However, from a revenue sports standpoint I am not sure it can be automatically assumed that baseball would be more valuable than ice hockey. It may come down to who the conference has negotiating on its behalf.
Something worth considering is that in addition to the Canadian markets, ice hockey also allows a school to tap into the European markets. For example AL-Huntsville's DI hockey team had a player from England on its roster this past season. Now I am not suggesting that a lot of people in Europe watch collegiate ice hockey on the BTN. However, it wouldn't surprise me if some Europeans, who live in the more affluent countries and have a son/daughter playing DI ice hockey at the school in the US, don't end up getting some sort of TV/internet package that allows them to watch their son/daughter play on TV since they are unable to frequently watch them play in person.
